UK-PDS_OneHeaderBanner1Becoming an apprentice

One of the biggest benefits of an apprenticeship is that you earn a wage while you work and study. Apprenticeships combines practical 'on the job' training with study towards a work-based qualification. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 not in full-time education.

As an apprentice, you will:

  • Work alongside experienced staff
  • Gain job-specific skills
  • Earn a wage and get holiday pay
  • Study towards a related qualification

Apprenticeships can take between 1 to 4 years to complete depending on their level.

Levels of apprenticeship

Apprenticeships have equivalent educational levels.

Name Level Equivalent educational level
Intermediate 2 5 GCSE passes at grades A* to C
Advanced 3 2 A level passes
Higher 4,5,6 and 7 Foundation degree and above
